Okay, okay, I try to keep it clean around here but I replied to a Facebook post earlier with that same language and it just sums up so well how I feel about a hot topic this month: bullying.
I’m just not okay with it. Call me too sensitive, or insecure or remind me of the whole ‘sticks and stones …’ adage. I really don’t care. Words can, and do, hurt. Some of us are lucky to have been blessed with thick skin and an attitude that can allow demeaning comments to go in one ear and out the other. I wasn’t one of them. And, most likely, regardless of how much confidence I can muster, I probably won’t ever be. Oh, trust me, I can appear to be full of confidence. And, I’ve likely bullied someone at some point in time (or several). To anyone who has ever been a recipient of that, I’m sincerely sorry. Most likely, that was my insecurity shining through.
My mom always said I had a soft heart. If I did something wrong, she would usually know by the fact that I was crying when I came to her. I remember when I got my first ticket, for speeding. I came home and woke her crying. (If only that was going to be my worst offense!) Even today, it doesn’t take much for me to get emotional. Have you ever watched Parenthood? My goodness.
Anyway, a news anchor’s response to an extremely insensitive email has gone viral … and I’m going to share it here too because her response was absolutely spot-on.
Please just remember …
