one fine day

That boy. Oh, how he melts my heart.

Yesterday, he was simply too excited to share his gifts with me so I he gave me a blue dolphin he’d cut-out and stickered; a card that he made in the shape of a heart with the words, “be (by) connor/for mom/i heart u mom” on the outside and, “mom yes/mother’s happy day/32/mother’s day/smiley/mom i heart u”; another store-bought card he picked out with his dad; a flower bookmark he’d made at school with his hand print in the middle (adorable) and a picture frame and school picture. I felt so special. I don’t think there is a better gift than one made by a child.

Today, we snuggled for a bit before getting out of bed (he strangely ends up in mine at some point during the night) and it was lovely. We had a wonderful lunch with my family, including my grandma who told me I look like I’m 21, God bless her heart and then came back home to get ready for a bike ride.

My dad, mom, Connor and I headed out to Holland and Connor opted for his regular bicycle. I was a little nervous but he did an amazing job. We rode four miles to the beach (and back) and he rode like a little pro. At the beach, he insisted on touching the water. He tried to tell me it was warm but there wasn’t a bone in my body that believed him.

When we got back to the truck, we loaded our bikes back up and headed out for a stop at Captain Sundae. Connor had his FlavorBurst cone filled up with sprinkles. He was gracious enough to let me have a couple tastes (albeit begrudgingly).

I was going through his school bag tonight in preparation for tomorrow and found a book he had made me earlier in the week. It is appropriated titled ‘A Book About My Mom’.

Page 1: My mom’s favorite thing to do is snagle (snuggle). (Strangely, I look like I’m lying in a coffin but it’s all good).

Page 2: My mom’s favorite food is leatsist (lettuce). (L.O.L.)

Page 3: My moms’ favorite color is orange.

Page 4: My mom’s favorite TV show is ELEN (Ellen). (I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite, but if I get a chance to watch TV, I love the goofiness that is that hour).

Page 5: My mom and I like to bike together. (True story.)

Page 6: Happy Mother’s Day Mom! I love you!

My favorite part about the story was that I read it at the end of a great weekend and that it was a reflection of how well he knows me. He doesn’t just spend time with me because I’m his mom and he sort of has to; he knows me. I must be the luckiest mom in the world.
