Connor and I pray every night before bed. Sometimes he asks me to pray because he “did it last night” but most often, he leads.
It’s interesting to see how he’s his prayers are evolving as he gets older. His prayers always include his “thank you’s” but now they are also becoming less self-centered and more focused on others … that’s a really hard thing to learn! For the record (other family members), Connor has always picked out moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas. It’s absolutely not to exclude any of you … I think he’s just trying to be brief …
I wanted to share his prayer from tonight. It was just too sweet to keep to myself and plus, it’s just one I want to remember.
Me: Okay, let’s pray.
CJ: Okay.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for this day. Thank you for moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas. Thank you that it was a good day and thank you for tug-of-war and for ropes courses (both activities I told him I had done at my company’s annual summer party). Please let my mom not be sad when I leave tomorrow because I just think she looks too pretty to be sad. In your name we pray, Amen.
Me: Aww, honey, that’s sweet. You’ve said I look pretty a couple times tonight. Is it because my hair is all up?
CJ: No, mom, really … I just think you look so cute when you wake up in the morning.
Me: Ha, that’s really nice of you to say.
CJ: No, really, you do.
Pretty or not, my sweet boy, I could never help but be sad to miss moments like that.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!
