Ok, fine. It’s sort of Thursday but only if you’re in, like, the first third of the country. Never mind that … I mostly just wanted to present to you, ‘Grandma Lowman turns 90’. Literally, this was one of the brightest spots my family’s shared in the past seven years. I’ll never forget her clarity that day and how just the day prior (when we took some five generation (!) photos) she called me by name and gave me eskimo kisses. My cup runneth over. the many faces of baby mae

You know how it’s super boring to see photos of babies gently sleeping? Wrapped so neatly in cheesecloth? Nestled sweetly in a basket? I agree!

That’s why when I went to visit baby Mae earlier this week, I tickled her feet and picked at her ears until she was wide awake and ready to make some faces at my glass. Don’t misquote me … I said glass.  Continue reading

It is rare that I find myself at a loss for words, but today? I’m at a loss. Except for one.

I admit I took a moment to look up the definition of the word taken because today, this is the only word that feels relevant and it feels absolutely negative. But I knew that wasn’t right. You can take your child’s hand or a compliment, and as I recalled from many of my own experiences, you can take a photo. All good things. I looked it up because all taken stirs up for me today is  a negative connotation. This weekend, in Kalamazoo, something very sacred was taken.
