i think i’ll move to australia

I had a pretty lengthy post written about how I don’t think I’m meant to celebrate MLK day away from work. This is the first year in my professional career that I’ve had the day off and? It did not go so well. Unlike Alexander, it started off quite swimmingly but then seemed like a similar downward spiral as the day progressed. Continue reading

believing is seeing

I’ve been wondering if this would be the year. You know, that Christmas where the magic suddenly … changes. Well thankfully, it hasn’t been and I was reassured today when Connor got to watch his message from the Portable North Pole (PNP). He had mentioned he checked his naughty or nice list status at his dad’s and wondered if he got another video this year. Continue reading

ctrl+z

Connor and I spent Wednesday together unexpectedly last week. He’s been having some tummy troubles which is even less fun because every time he says he’s in pain, we have to immediately question what he’s been eating in the event any of it may have been gluten-ified. In any event, he wasn’t feeling up to school so after some doctor visits, we were home and he decided he wanted to practice his keyboarding skills on my laptop.

halloween: a retrospective

Yesterday was Thursday, October 31. Halloween. I often see friends looking back in the archives on Thursdays and posting old photos in honor of Throwback Thursday, or #tbt. Coincidentally, I’d just gone back in the archives a week or so prior to find a photo of Connor dressed as Buzz Lightyear. He was two. Continue reading

second grade: a progress report

Gosh, it’s been busy around here. I feel like I posted six days ago that Connor started school when, in reality, it’s been just shy of two months. P.S. October is going to be over this week. Is this real life?

Connor is seriously rocking second grade. A bit more challenging than first, he’s learning ten new spelling words each week and five more difficult vocabulary words. He takes his spelling tests very.seriously. and so far, he’s aced all of them. In fact, he’s never missed a word on a spelling test. Do I smell a future Jewett School spelling bee champion? He could have his photo in ‘the book’ many pages after his mother who was rockin’ the pegged pants and crimped hair back in the day. Thanks for that style suggestion, Nikki. Ahem. Continue reading

wordless wednesday

Image

back off, little ladies.

back off, little ladies.

Considering last night’s post, it’s ironic that today has been dubbed “Love Your Body Day”. I decided to ask Connor tonight what he loves about his body. He said his arms … because his legs are kinda boring. All they do is walk. (He’ll realize someday that’s kind of a big deal). But your arms? Well, Connor says your arms can do crazy things like open the refrigerator. I told him I liked my arms, too, as I pointed and made a comment about going to the gun show. He laughed and decided to wrap his sweet little arms around my waist and attempted to pick me up. Yeah, your arms aren’t that strong yet, buddy.

perception is only skin deep

I watched her get out of the vehicle as we jumped into ours. I had just shut my door and she was exiting the passenger side. What struck me first was that she had a gigantic sucker in her mouth. The way it was positioned was, honestly, not flattering. But, that was really my last thought.  Continue reading

wacky wednesday, er, thursday

Normally, I limit the words for a Wednesday post (thus, the ‘wordless’ …), but this video requires a bit of explanation. And, I realize I’ve been less than wordy here lately. Wait, you didn’t notice? Oh. Moving on.

Long story short, we found a new feature on my phone tonight. I haven’t played much with iOS7, but I did notice the native camera app had been updated. I was showing Connor when, suddenly, I saw ‘slo-mo’. Hmm, what’s that? Well, anyone that knows Connor is well aware that he can be quite the ham. He comes by it honestly. Back in the day when we had video cameras the size of a small child, my girlfriends (or cousins) would film television shows, newscasts, etc. If only I’d known then that people get paid thousands of dollars for a two-minute YouTube video. Bummer.

Well, when Connor saw we could make videos in slow-motion, he was all about it. I believe he has a future in physical comedy. And with that, I present to you, “Connor sings the ABC’s” (in slow-motion).

P.S. I did not encourage him to do any of that. And I tried to post last night but YouTube opted out of the slo-mo version initially, which isn’t nearly as funny. It’s all good now. The end.
