lego mania

I’m so grateful to know people that have connections to ‘the big city’ where awesome events like Lego® KidsFest take place. I would never have known 1.) about it and 2.) that the traveling show would be in Novi this past weekend. I asked Connor if he wanted to go and as per usual he was like, ‘I have no idea what you’re talking about, but okay.’ ‘Sure, I’ll go.’ Continue reading

The very best part about this tour was that I’d never seen an inch of it before.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

october sixth

I went to visit him last night. To be completely honest, I didn’t get out of the car but I still talked to him. I told him that I was sorry and that I can’t believe he’s been gone for four years. And then, in typical fashion, he made me laugh. I remembered that last in-person conversation we’d had just a few months before October 6, 2008 … the one where he invited me to his funeral. He laughed and I may have punched him but he reiterated that he meant it. I really was invited. You still make me laugh today, JJ. I’ll love you forever, and just like I signed off the text to my dad last night about that story … brat.

girls night out

Several of my girlfriends try to get together at least once a month for some much-needed girl time. I guess we all need it for different reasons, but regardless, we do make an effort to meet up because, well, it’s fun.

This time, we went all crazy and decided a Monday night outing was in order. One of my BFFs (Melissa) had won a private shopping experience with a local boutique (Cake’s … check it out if you haven’t been; they were most welcoming and not at all annoyed that I didn’t come close to buying a single thing). potential career option

Or … why I think racing derby cars may be what I was born to do.

Exhibit 1 (with play-by-play)

car rounds corner

car lifts off the track

car lifts even higher off the track

car starts its descent

car returns to track

car goes on its merry way

Exhibit 2 (with play-by-play)

7-11 car rounds corner and lifts off the track

7-11 car turns completely to its side

7-11 car flips from its side to its top and over in the opposite direction

7-11 car returns to the track

7-11 car goes on its merry way

I should also add that the 7-11 car (Connor’s favorite, by the way) won the entire event and a $200 bonus for performing a complete flip … and going along on its merry way.

I think my driving history and daring personality make this line of work a definite possibility.

loud mouth

I have a short story to share with you, my dear readers.

Connor had soccer practice this evening.

His coach asked the kids to line up after getting a drink.

Connor burped (loudly).

Because of his noisy outburst, Coach Maule let the team know they could run around the end goal and back.

When they got back, he was giving him a hard time and so Connor responded with what I’m sure was something he heard on TV … or on the radio … or from Siri. He said, “Well, my mom has gas.”

I started dying inside so all I could do was laugh.

I laughed uncomfortably for what felt like ten minutes while his coach also shared that moms don’t fart … they burp out of their butts.

More uncomfortable laughter.

Tonight at the football game, I learned the story had gone viral and now everyone thinks I have gas.

Well, Connor James, at least (if I really did have gas) I keep it to myself.

The end.

P.S. I’m only sharing this story because 1.) I believe in transparency with my readers and you already promised you wouldn’t judge me. Ever. And 2.) I never, ever want to forget how funny my kid is.

never forget

ground zero, april 2007

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget.” – Arundhati Roy
